
Dharamshala, June 11, 1996 Alag Jigme Lhundub Rinpoche took the oath of office in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and formally assumed the responsibilities of the Auditor General.
His appointment was made under the authority of Article 107 of the Charter of the Tibetans in Exile.
In accordance with Article 107 of the Charter, His Holiness the Dalai Lama appointed him as Auditor General.
Alag Jigme Lhundub Rinpoche brings decades of high-level experience to the post. Immediately prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of the Tibet Research and Analysis section of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile from 1990 until June 10, 1996.
In 1979, he was appointed Director of the Tibetan Government Audit Office with the rank of Secretary. During that tenure, he significantly expanded the Office’s scope. He initiated auditing protocols not just for government expenditures, but also for registered autonomous organizations under the jurisdiction of the Tibetan Government, including cooperatives, schools, hospitals, and the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.
He served as a member of the Commission of Tibetan People’s Deputies (CTPD) for 13 years, eventually rising to the position of Vice Chairman of the 5th CTPD and Chairman of the 6th CTPD. His executive experience also includes serving as the Minister of Security (Kalon) from 1986 to 1990 and as Chairman of the Public Service Commission in 1980.
Born in Rebgong, Amdo, in 1939 to a noble family, he was recognized as the reincarnation of Jigme Tulku of Rebgong Rongpo Monastery. After fleeing to India in 1959, he began a long and distinguished career in public service.
Rinpoche will serve as Auditor General in accordance with the Charter provisions until the retirement age mandated by Article 110.
