Kagyu Dhondup Appointed as New Auditor General

August 16, 2004

New Commissioner, Auditor General Appointed

Dharamsala, 16 August: Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, formerly the secretary of the administrative division of the Department of Security, has been appointed the Election Commissioner and Public Service Commissioner of the Central Tibetan Administration. Mr. Kargyu Dhondup, formerly the secretary of the Audit Office, has been appointed the Auditor General.

This follows the retirement of Mr. Namgyal Dorjee who headed both the Public Service Commission and election Commission, and Jigmey Lhundup Rinpoche who held the post of the Auditor General.

A circular issued by the Kashag Secretariat on 13 August announced the appointments after it had received a copy each of the letters sent to the new appointees by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Article 101 and 107 of the charter of the exile Tibetans has it that a special committee shall present the nominations for these posts to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Mr. Lekshay Tenpa, director of the Tibetan Children’s Village School, Dharamsala, has been made a new member of the Public Service Commission, the circular said.
